Government Jobs | सरकारी नौकरी | UPSC Calendar

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) (Hindi : संघ लोक सेवा आयोग) is India's central agency authorised to conduct the Civil Services Examination, Engineering Services Examination, Combined Defence Services Examination, National Defence Academy Examination, Naval Academy Examination.
Please see the video for UPSC Exam Calendar 2017-18.

Functions : Under Article 320 of the Constitution of India, the Commission is, inter-alia, required to be consulted on all matters relating to recruitment to civil services and posts. The functions of the Commission under Article 320 of the Constitution are:

  1. Conduct examinations for appointment to the services of the Union.
  2. Direct recruitment by selection through interviews.
  3. Appointment of officers on promotion / deputation / absorption.
  4. Framing and amendment of Recruitment Rules for various services and posts under the Government.
  5. Disciplinary cases relating to different Civil Services.
  6. Advising the Government on any matter referred to the Commission by the President of India.

History : The origin of the Public Service Commission in India is found in the First Dispatch of the Government of India on the Indian Constitutional Reforms on the 5th March, 1919 which referred to the need for setting up some permanent office charged with the regulation of service matters. This concept of a body intended to be charged primarily with the regulation of service matters, found a somewhat more practical shape in the Government of India Act, 1919. Section 96(C) of the Act provided for the establishment in India of a Public Service Commission which should “discharge, in regard to recruitment and control of the Public Services in India, such functions as may be assigned thereto by rules made by the Secretary of State in Council”.

The functions of the Public Service Commission were not laid down in the Government of India Act, 1919, but were regulated by the Public Service Commission (Functions) Rules, 1926 framed under sub-section (2) of Section 96(C) of the Government of India Act, 1919. Further, the Government of India Act, 1935 envisaged a Public Service Commission for the Federation and a Provincial Public Service Commission for each Province or group of Provinces. Therefore, in terms of the provisions of the Government of India Act, 1935 and with its coming into effect on 1st April, 1937, the Public Service Commission became the Federal Public Service Commission.

With the inauguration of the Constitution of India in January 26, 1950, the Federal Public Service Commission came to be known as the Union Public Service Commission,  and  the  Chairman  and  Members  of  the  Federal  Public  Service Commission became Chairman and Members of the Union Public Service Commission by virtue of Clause (1) of Article 378 of the Constitution.

Ram Leela - 2017 : India's Most Famous Theatre experience...

“Ramleela” is a beautiful dramatic version of the Hindu epic “Ramayana” describes the life story of Lord Rama. Ramleela is played for ten days and ends with the battle between Lord Rama and ten headed king Ravana (as per Hindu epic “Ramayana”) in which Ravana was killed by Lord Rama.

Ramayana was written by Sage Valmiki, which constrained 24,000 Sanskrit verses.  Later Sage Tulsi Das wrote the hindi version with 16,000 Dohas (Shlokas or poetry) . The Ramacharitmas by Sage Tulsi Das divides Ramayan into seven chapters called Kaands, namely Bal Kaand, Ayodhya Kaand, Aranya Kaand, Kishkindha Kaand, Sunder Kaand, Lanka Kaand and Uttar Kaand.

Bal Kaand  : It starts from the birth of Lord Ram, his childhood and his marriage to Sita.

The Ayodhya Kaand : It describes the preparations for Lord Ram’s coronation and than his 14 years exile into the forest.

Aranya Kaand : It describes how Lord Rama spent his life in the forest during exile and during the period his wife Sita was kidnapped  of by the King Ravana.

Kishkindha Kaand : In this Lord Rama meets Hanuman who was the blind follower of Lord Rama and also Hanumaan with his devotion to Lord Rama is describes as GOD by Hindus. This chapter also describes destruction of Vanara (Monkey) King, Bali, and the coronation of Bali’s younger brother, Sugriv, for the Kingdom of Kishkindha.

Sundar Kaand : This chapter is very holy as it describes the hanuman flying to Lanka, the kingdom of Ravana and meeting with Sita.

Lanka Kaand : As the meaning suggest this chapter describes the battle between the armies of Lord Rama and the Demon King, Ravana, in Which Ravana was killed along with his brother Kumbhkarn and son Meghnath.

Uttar Kaand : Sita gives birth to Luv and Kush in the forest , and they meet Lord Rama and finally coronated  to the throne of Ayodhya, and then Lord Ram’s departs from the world.

Many movies and TV series are made in India inspired from the Epic “Ramayana”. In the late nineteen eighties (late 1980s),  TV series Ramayana became the most watched TV series in India.

Importance of Sleep in our Quality life...

Good Physical and mental health is very important for every life, it helps us to enjoy life and cope with problems. It offers a feeling of well-being, inner strength and makes us self-motivated for progressive life and increases our potential to handle circumstances very patiently. Just as we must take care of our body by eating, exercising and other disciplined aspects, we must not forget the importance of sleep in our precious life.

Sleep plays a vital role in good health and well-being throughout our life. Getting enough quality sleep at the right times can help ensure our mental health, physical health, and quality of life. According to the National Sleep Foundation (NSF), sleep is very essential for a person’s health and well-being, yet millions of people do not get enough sleep and many suffer from lack of sleep. For example, surveys conducted by the NSF (1999-2004) reveal that at least 40 million Americans suffer from over 70 different sleep disorders and 60 percent of adults report having sleep problems a few nights a week or more.

Getting a good night's sleep won't grant you immunity from disease. But study after study has found a link between insufficient sleep and some serious health problems, such as heart disease, heart attacks, diabetes, and obesity. Insufficient sleep may also cause other symptoms like headache, sleep disorders, difficulty in concentrating, short-temper, upset stomach, Job dissatisfaction, low morale, depression, anxiety etc.

Every individual’s sleep needs vary. In general, most healthy adults are built for 16 hours of wakefulness and need an average of eight hours of sleep a night. However, some individuals are able to function without sleepiness or drowsiness after as little as six hours of sleep. Others can't perform at their peak unless they've slept ten hours. And, contrary to common myth, the need for sleep doesn't decline with age but the ability to sleep for six to eight hours at one time may be reduced.

So, from the above article, we conclude that sleep plays an important and vital role in our quality of life and hence, we must take proper sleep in order to have good physical and mental health.
